In this Advocacy Pack, you will find information about the IFLA-UNESCO Public Library Manifesto, which turned 25 in its current form in 2019. The Public Library Manifesto is one of the most influential documents created and promoted by IFLA. It has helped shape policies, strategies and attitudes around public libraries worldwide. Setting out key principles of universal and accessible service, freedom of expression and access to information, as well as the importance of public funding, it provides a reference point for the field. Crucially, it also places public libraries at the heart of efforts to promote educated and informed societies. To mark a quarter century since its latest revision (and 70 years since the original version was agreed in 1949!), IFLA is looking to work with libraries worldwide to talk about – and celebrate – the work of public libraries. To do this, we have created an advocacy toolkit. In this, you can find: * An Introduction to the Manifesto, * Key Public Library Facts, * Key Principles in the Manifesto, * Information about the Manifesto’s Influence, * Examples of Public Libraries in Action, * Key Messages, * Key Quotes from the Manifesto, * A List of Available Tools for Advocacy, * A Draft Op-Ed.en_US
