Acreditamos que elas estão situadas em uma posição ímpar para fomentar a capacidade de ler e escrever e que podem desenvolver seus próprios programas, fornecer pessoal ou também apoiar projetos de alfabetização patrocinados por outras organizações. Os propósitos destas diretrizes práticas são: 1.) Estimular as bibliotecas a se envolverem mais em programas de alfabetização, principalmente os de alfabetização funcional; 2.) Nous pensons que les bibliothèques sont les mieux placées pour lutter contre l’illettrisme. Les bibliothèques peuvent développer et mettre en œuvre leurs programmes ou bienelles peuvent accompagner des projets organisés par d’autres structures. It is then very important to promote picture books and to ensure access to them. The idea behind the World Through Picture Books is to create a list of picture books from around the world that have been recommended by librarians, as a tool for building bridges and developing understanding between countries.
