Item Building Korea’s first public library for comics and web-toons(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-10-19) Chang, Durk H.; Go, So Jeong; Koo, Bon JinThis poster portrays the process of the planning the first public library for comics to be built in South Korea. Cartoons are flourishing in S. Korea. ‘K-toon’ is famous worldwide as Korea's Naver Webtoon has grown at an annual average of 71% and 32% in the digital comics market in the US and Japan over the past two years. However, in most cases, cartoons are vulnerable to be lost, so there is a need for public libraries to collect them. Recently, as the value of comics as library collection increases, City of Busan came up with an idea to build Korea's first public library specializing in comics including web-toons. This library, enables the expansion of cartoon experience through building specialized comic collections. Busan City plans to create a theme street centered on this new public library to revitalize the region and develop the area as a tourist attraction. Various spaces specializing in cartoons are created inside the library to promote cartoon imagination, and in an open space where new experiences are possible, collection and preservation of cartoon materials, various cartoon planning exhibitions, and educational and cultural programs are promoted.Item Spatial Regression Analysis of Factors Affecting the Accessibility of the Public Libraries(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-11-07) Chang, Durk Hyun; Koo, Bon Jin; Jeong, Soo InPublic library accessibility directly affects library usage, and the disproportionate distribution of accessibility is a decisive factor limiting the equitable provision of library services. In this regard, this study analyzed the spatial accessibility of public libraries in Metro City of Busan, South Korea and identified the factors affecting accessibility of public libraries using spatial regression analysis. As a results of the analysis, the accessibility of public libraries in the Busan City, South Korea showed large deviations by region. Also, spatial distribution of public libraries had no correlation with the settled population and use of public transportation, and location of public libraries was inefficient, in terms of social equity. The results of this study will assist to understand the spatial accessibility of public libraries in Busan, to identify factors that affect the accessibility. Moreover, this study is expected to be utilized as data for releasing disparities of the spatial accessibility and selecting new location of public library in Busan, South Korea, since, for the sustainable development of public libraries, it is desirable to apply a spatial regression analysis.
