The University library has constantly been innovating its services to improve its users’ satisfaction and experience. In 2017, the library space was re-designed, thus creating more space for users to connect, explore and learn. The users are, therefore, inspired to ask for more sophisticated services. The reality of having these services became more obvious during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The library applied for and won an ‘Institutional Research Based’(IBR) grant in 2021 sponsored by TETFUND to develop a ‘Microservice-Based Social Media Centric Instant Messaging Mobile Application’ (SCIMMA) to boost the library services delivery despite users’ location. SCIMMA is a mobile application designed for collaborative value-added library services without incurring extra Internet provision costs or bandwidth consumption.Item Generative AI versus intellectual capacity and knowledge development: a trending crisis(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-10-01) Onifade, Fehintola Nike; Akintola, Bosede Olutoyin; Adenekan, Fauziyah Nihinlolawa; Adebamiro, Ayokari AdenikeGenerative Artificial intelligence is a new technological development rapidly affecting the world. It is a technology developed to perform various tasks by exposing search terms to lots of data. However, the impact of generative AI is not encouraging the development of human knowledge, which is becoming dangerous to the present generation. Librarians as information custodians are, therefore, concerned about over-reliance on Artificial Intelligence as it destroys information authenticity, encourages information theft, disrupts mental health, and hinders socialization. It is, therefore, important for librarians to alert the world to strike a balance between generative AI, intellectual capacity building and knowledge development.
