    Librarian-Scientist(s) Collaboration in Harnessing the Potential of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for Veterinary and Animal Sciences Education and Training: A Success Story of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana

    The livestock sector is a key component of the global food system, having a vivacious role in securing food and nutritional security, and generating rural employment. The competency and skills of veterinary professionals are primary to the progression of the livestock sector. The veterinary professionals go through rigorous academic programme(s) comprising of clinical and para-clinical subjects, aimed to develop them as accomplished veterinary professional(s) to serve the speechless creatures. Consequent upon absence of precise understanding of processes/ procedures involved in handling cases, failure on part of professionals may lead to the mortality of animal(s). Besides, animal protection regulatory bodies may impose restrictions over in-situ cadaver exposure, leaving a few opportunities for veterinary students to learn with live animals in a practical setting. The two-dimensional graphics, texts, and/or videos in veterinary instruction as an alternative have their own shortfalls. In such a scenario, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) open up new vistas to address these problems permitting real like animal handling experiences and an immersive environment for experiential learning. These technologies allow students to understand intricate procedure(s) meticulously and enhance their clinical reasoning abilities to support healthy livestock sector. This paper discusses the success story of librarian-scientist(s) collaboration for harnessing the potential of this novel technology in veterinary and animal sciences education and training at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (India), which was an outcome of exposure to the technology at IFLA WLIC 2019 at Athens, Greece. In addition, instances of use of AR and VR in veterinary and animal sciences, globally, have been discussed.     कोई भी पुस्तकालय अपने उपयोक्ताओं की सभी सूचना आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने में आत्मनिर्भर नहीं हो सकता, जिस प्रकार कोई भी देश आत्मनिर्भर नहीं हो सकता है। इसलिए विभिन्न पुस्तकालय उधार के माध्यम से संसाधनों को साझा करके दस्तावेज़ों को पूरक बनाते हैं। इस प्रक्रिया को सुचारू रूप से चलाने के लिए सिद्धांतों और दिशानिर्देशों का होना महत्वपूर्ण है। यह दस्तावेज उधार के माध्यम से संसाधन साझा करने के लिए कुल 8 प्रमुख सिद्धांतों और इन सिद्धांतों का समर्थन करने के लिए दिशानिर्देशों का वर्णन करता है। ये सिद्धांत और दिशानिर्देश अंतरराष्ट्रीय संसाधन साझा करने की जिम्मेदारी, प्रणाली, राष्ट्रीय नीति, अनुरोध प्रस्तुत करने, सामग्री के प्रावधान, कॉपीराइट, देनदारी और उधार ली गई सामग्री की लागत पर मार्गदर्शन प्रदान करते हैं।

    Library/information educational programs have a long and distinguished history. In the past, they have focused on developing physical collections of books and other materials in library buildings staffed by people who have learned to select, acquire, organize, retrieve and circulate these materials. Today library information programs extend beyond the physical collections and buildings to the virtual world of the Internet. Today the emphasis is on the individual practioner and the concentration is on information provision in a variety of contexts. Educational programs are offered at the technical level, at the graduate and professional level, and at the research and doctoral level. The guidelines offered here primarily address the graduate and professional level.
