Item $100 Million to 1000 libraries(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-11-21) Dyatlovskaya, AnastasiaThere are more than 42 000 public libraries in Russia. Most of them have not been upgraded for decades. The national project "Culture" launched in 2019, and it aims to modernize 1000 libraries in 83 regions of Russia by 2024. In order to achieve this goal, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Russian State Library operate together as the main project office, creating a nationwide ecosystem with the government, local authorities, regional project offices, society, business and other partners. The federal funding alone amounts to more than $100 million. Libraries use the funding to create intellectual and educational centres that combine interior design, modern spaces, new technologies & electronics, accessibility and new books. The project has an impact on many social, cultural and educational aspects, such as sustainable development, quality of life improvement, digitalization, ICT, creative industries, edutainment, inclusivity and others. The Russian State Library provides methodological and educational support for the participants and monitors every step of the project. By the end of 2020, 306 next generation libraries have been created for 37 million people in 73 regions of Russia. Furthermore, in order to improve the quality of services and enhance professional skills, The Russian State Library organized educational courses for library staff and trained 1433 specialists in 2019-2020. The success of the project is evident by the numbers. Library visits in modernized libraries grew 19% in the first half of 2021 compared to the year before modernization. People of all groups started going to the new libraries to receive high-quality services. This in turn helps improve people's standards of living, especially in small towns and villages. Libraries are becoming more open to collaborating with other institutions, individuals and each other.Item 15 Years of Excellence in Reading Promotion(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-11-13) Au, AnnaIn 2007, Macao Library and Information Management Association successfully advocated for the recognition of the occupation of reading promoters with the official support of the Education and Youth Development Bureau. This opened up an alternative career route at school libraries for people with a university degree in language, literature, pedagogy, or library and information science. For quality assurance, reading promoters must complete the official reading promotion training programme of no less than 120 hours within 3 years into their role at the school library. Ever since the establishment of the profession of reading promotion, Macau has seen gradual and significant increase in scores of all PISA subjects – reading, mathematics, and science. This is evidence that the value of accessible reading and creative activities reaches beyond reading. Today in 2023, with over 15 years of experience in this profession, we want to share the impacts we see and the know-how to inspire sustaining support for reading promotion at school libraries. The establishment of Reading Promoter offers different decent job opportunities (SDG 8) and fosters better formal education (SDG 4).Item 3Rs of cataloguing: re-engineering cataloguing processes for increased efficiency(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-11-20) Ho, Yen WahManpower constraints and increased expectations by library users for speedy delivery of information and materials are typical present-day challenges faced by any library. In view of such challenges, National Library Board, Singapore conducted business process re-engineering to re-design traditional cataloguing operations. The poster will share the workflow of the re-designed cataloguing operations (such as "fast-lane cataloguing" and "cataloguing of titles on order"), as well as the use of the Robotic Process Automation (RPA).Item 7 ingredients for a successful family literacy program(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-10-23) Fockert, Tirza de; Brink, Manouk van denChildren who grow up in a “language poor” environment have an increased chance of becoming adults with low literacy. Libraries can be a key partner breaking this cycle of low literacy by organizing family literacy programs. Stimulating literacy activities works best when the whole family is involved. In this poster we will present seven ingredients help you to implement a successful family literacy program in your own local community. These ingredients are distilled from the evaluation research ITTA did on the nationwide project Kwaliteitsimpuls laagtaalvaardige ouders, ran by the KB National Library of the Netherlands in 2021-2022. In this project, public libraries received a financial impulse to experiment or further strengthen family literacy activities in their local communities. Library employees were also offered free training to form a long term policy on family literacy, build sustainable collaborations with partner organizations and to gain necessary skills and expertise. Nearly 80% of all Dutch public library organizations participated. The seven ingredients for a successful family literacy program will guide you on two main topics. Firstly, how to organize high qualitative and activating activities for caretakers and children? And secondly, what does this program mean for your library organization and your local partners?Item Academic Libraries Supporting Intercultural Dialogue through Partnership: The Case of Penn State University Libraries(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-11-26) Mattson, Mark AllenThe Pennsylvania State University has prioritized global engagement experiences and competencies as a key part of the institution's strategic plan. The Penn State Libraries, as a central unit of the university, has worked through inter-departmental collaboration to deliver innovative programming and opportunities in support of campus-wide internationalization. This poster showcases select strategic collaborations between the academic library, a globally-focused housing program, an intensive English program, and a student organization.Item Academic libraries; adaptive learning; art history; asynchronous learning; information literacy(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-06-21) Loftis, ElsaIn a collaborative effort between three departments at Portland State University, investigators designed and created Information Literacy (IL) modules tailored to the needs of Art History students utilizing two delivery platforms. One platform employed adaptive software (in this study, the product is called Realizeit), and the other was a static environment called Pressbooks. Students were randomly divided into cohorts based on these delivery methods. The author compared results of pre and post information literacy assessments and completed an analysis of students’ preliminary bibliographies to measure the success of the IL instruction. But the core investigation was to determine whether the same content delivered in different online learning environments were appreciably different in terms of students’ performance outcomes. This study reaffirms the value of information literacy instruction in Art History classes as evidenced by significant student improvements. Regarding the efficacy of adaptive learning software, however, the outcomes of this study are inconclusive.Item Academic Library as a bridge in knowledge transfer between secondary and higher education(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-10-26) Šimunović, Marija; Dumančić, Kosjenka; Marić, IvanaAcademic libraries have a crucial purpose in supporting the curriculum and educational process of its institution especially in today's rapidly reshaping informational environment. Libraries have a responsibility in teaching research inquiry skills, providing space and material resources needed for research and facilitating collaborative work throughout the research process. Poster will highlight role of Library and Documentation Centre at Faculty of Economics and Business Zagreb (LDC-FEB) within new European project (Erasmus + project Jean Monnet Actions in other fields of Education and Training: Teacher Training called "Solidary Europe for Inclusive Society (EUsolis)" that will include knowledge transfer from FEB researchers and librarians to school librarians and high school teachers (Vocational Education and Training - VET) in different parts of Croatia. Purpose of this project is transferring the knowledge by providing the primary information resources, with emphasis on digital and open source, creating the teaching materials and supporting VET in gaining new skills for better engagement at EU themes within the VET school students and their environment. LDC-FEB will take a role and be the focal point and a bridge that connects institutional knowledge on a different educational level with an efficient impact on national level.Item Active Ageing Learning Market: Enabling People as the Sustainable Re-sources for the Society(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-07-17) He, Jian HaoThere are a total of 12 districts in Taipei City, Taiwan. Senior Active Learning Centers are established for the respective districts, and 6 of which are organized by Taipei Public Library. Among these establishments, the Senior Active Learning Demonstration Center of Daan has been promoting the Active Ageing Learning Market with reference to the spirit of the SDGs since 2022. With the civic participation via i-Voting and the philosophy of self-directed learning combined, it put the participants back in the driving seat for learning. The program was inspired by the idea of crowdfunding platform. First, the active senior readers propose their thoughts and wishes for courses. After discussions and voting, the courses that pass the threshold of second will then have resources matched by the Center for course opening. Also, participants are empowered as lecturers or teaching assistants to further give back to the society. The program not just promotes older workforce reutilization, drawing retired individuals to serve as lecturers or teaching assistants, but also keeps tabs on the post-curriculum development of participants and invites them to be the brand ambassadors to the Center following the concept of brand management, so as to attract more people to the community of lifelong learning.Item ADA Library services for research community and guest users as a part of SDG initiative(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-09-22) Mammadova, Vafa; Kazimova, NaidaTo support the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan, ADA University Library is rendering library and information services to both internal and external users with its rich print and electronic resources mainly in English language, and providing comfortable academic environment with cutting-edge technology. But what of artworks that are not entirely unique such as print or sculpture editions? Wikidata uses a linked data framework for describing and relating people, things, places, and concepts. The beauty of such technology is that unique identifiers bring together data about the same things and ideas regardless of language barriers or label inconsistencies. How does this function when two or more museums have instantiations of the same work? This presentation discusses ways of addressing the question above within Wikidata and outlines the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s current practices, which adapt and apply FRBR’s (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) conceptual model to represent artwork editions. Keywords: Artwork editions, Wikidata, Linked data, FRBR, SculptureItem Advocating Public Libraries by the SDGs(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-09-14) Sahavirta, HarriThe library world has recognized the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the fact that they can be taken as a starting point when considering ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable libraries. The SDGs are general in nature, though they approach sustainability from many angles. In virtue of many-sidedness, they balance the debate on sustainable development, which, incidentally, is prone to focusing solely on carbon neutrality or emission reduction. However, because of the generality, they do not offer a ready-made action plan. Thus, the SDGs should be clarified and interpreted in the library framework. In addition, the SDGs are interlinked and show how sustainable development depends on factors that are interdependent. A national project (2020-2021) Bringing environmental awareness of public libraries to the 2020s investigated the environmental awareness of Finnish public libraries. The project included a survey on public libraries’ environmental work and values but also the SDGs were worked on workshops. The project showed that the SDGs can be used to broaden and deepen the environmental awareness of libraries. However, they also offer a visually well-designed and internationally accepted tool for marketing public libraries by clarifying how diversely libraries have adopted sustainability and promote the SDGs.Item Agile Methodology in the Promotive Activities of the “Svetozar Marković” University Library(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-09-04) Župan, VesnaThis paper is focused on the agile methodology in a digital library environment. Text before you refers to the promotive activity of the “Svetozar Marković” University Library in Belgrade. The author of this paper has a documents convergence in mind. That convergence is desirable for the promotive activities in each university library. This paper is a case study. At the same time it is a descriptive study. Its goal is to explain promotive activities realized by the University Library mentioned here, but through their usual phases – beginning with a proposal until the end. Those promotive activities for whose realization agile methodology was being used in Library are taken into account. In certain empirical framework, those persons who use agile methodology are librarians with long professional experience. Their usual characteristic is that they have strong information skills. Except that, they have abilities for efficient individual and team work. Furthermore they are oriented towards low-cost solutions. New technological environment is close to them. The agile methodologies do not exclude the implementation of some traditional means. Combined operations give often a very successful result. A librarian who performs promotive activities, doesn’t neglect in practice his current set of obligations and tasks. He tries to connect them with those events that arrive. The Library regularly looks for and finds such events in order to stay in contact with users and achieve their loyalty. It tends to receive new readers. During this post-covid period the relationship towards library audience is more open. Library users receive new information and widen their own knowledge reading catalogues of exhibitions. It is in such a way that users are being reminded of some important facts from the world of science and receive new knowledge as well as professional recommendations for reading through bibliographies which are included into the exhibitions catalogues. Such very popular literature always finds readers easily. This descriptive study shows how librarian can make educational influence to actual and potential users and tends to make them understand better the type of the library. It is a way to widen also the membership of the library through attracting those readers who need the library such as it is – with its’ technical equipment, strategy, collections and the opportunity to use sources in Serbian and in foreign languages. Making library reality closer to users will help them get acquainted better with its’ staff and collections. Services and the collections are more accessive if there are monographies published in a printed form or on CD-s. The University Library has some hybrid editions of catalogues which improve the image of this institution in public. What makes the behaviour of a librarian truly agile is his entire effort to make certain creator, his life and his work closer to users. Except that, the way of presenting news in the library includes introductive texts, posters, computer presentations, and diverse sources of information. We live in the epoch of information-communication technologies. So, informatics with standards for librarians is being implemented in cataloguing and classificating the catalogues of exhibitions. These are the standards which are being implemented for cataloguing all other monographies including doctoral dissertations, master theses and conference books from professional or scientific meetings. A catalogue which is classificated this way confirms to readers who were present or absent that an event was organized. That publication including indispensable reviews will inform him wider on the event he had maybe neglected. Agile methodology including oral and written presentation gives synergetic result which contributes to a more successful work in the domain of promotive activities. It is a way to stimulate the interest of readers for Library work and development. Keywords: agile methodology, promotive activities, new technologies, university library, users.Item AI and Data to Improve Preservation Management(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-10-24) Cabane, Célia; Zreik, AlaaHeritage collections are increasing and aging as time passes. To analyze all the hazards which occurred to almost 40 million documents, among which centuries old manuscripts, the National Library of France (BnF – Bibliothèque nationale de France) has decided to build a research program combining data describing collections and artificial intelligence. The aim of this program is to create a choice assistant tool. It is held by the BnF and the Versailles-Saint-Quentin University and funded by the Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine. To analyze the hazards which occurred to the documents, all the events that occurred to a given document has been placed onto a trajectory. An ontology was constructed to tackle the heterogeneity of all the databases used. This work on the data relies on the use of two algorithms, which could calculate the similarity between different trajectories, create groups and compare communicability of the documents and event trajectories. The software, based on these algorithms and a database, requires as input a document and its related data and calculate its communicability status as output. In 2022, a global review has been done to improve software, algorithms and data and to consider other AI methods concerning preservation management.Item Aiming for Universal Design(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-07-21) Larsson, KarinUniversal Design is a perfect vision to aim for. An environment, a library, designed to meet everyone’s needs. Universal Design is, and has been, explained simply as good design. The design and composition are understood, accessed, and used by everyone - not only by someone disabled. In Malmö, Sweden, there are twelve libraries spread across the municipality. Are these libraries accessible for everyone? Maybe not, but they are a work in progress. A library wherever it is located must be a welcoming place for everyone wanting to visit. It is a human right. Presented in this paper is a guide written to help and inspire all staff working with accessibility at any of Malmö’s libraries. Does this guide alone let us reach the universal design – no, however there are many changes being made throughout our libraries and they all are striving for universal design. Keywords: Universal design, disability, guide, accessibilityItem ALIPH : safeguarding written heritage in conflict zones and post-conflict situations(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-08-11) Amagat, Gala-AlexaA presentation at the "Strengthening Libraries' Emergency Preparedness and Response" Satellite Meeting, organized by the Preservation and Conservation Section and National Libraries Section.Examples of ALIPH Foundation Projects of restoration, digitization, and dissemination of documentary heritage.Item All Inclusive Engagement: Utilizing University Resources for Rural Public Library Outreach(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-11-16) Alford, EmilyLibraries of all kinds have always depended on quality outreach. State-funded academic libraries, especially those involved in agreements such as the United States Federal Depository Library Program, expand this outreach to the greater community outside the walls of university affiliates. Universities have vast resources, however, which may not always be shared beyond their immediate locale. After being granted funds to engage more broadly throughout the state, Indiana University Libraries and the Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement proceeded in a project reaching public libraries and patrons across eleven counties. This poster will depict the valuable information gained, as well as connections made and successful programming.Item Ambassadors for Sustainable Development – Making Green Libraries Visible(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-09-26) Hauke, PetraAgainst the background of IFLA's involvement in the 2030 Agenda, this paper asks about the visible commitment of libraries and library associations as ambassadors for the dissemination of the SDGs. On the other hand, it also examines to what extent this commitment – if any – is reflected in national sustainability strategies and in strategies for education for sustainable development. The result makes clear that there is still room for development on the part of the library associations, but the libraries themselves must clearly communicate their commitment so that the public and political stakeholders are aware of it.Item Analyzing the Operation of Korean School Libraries based on Staffing(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-10-25) Kang, Bong-sukKorea has a legal mandate all schools must assign school librarians. The ‘School Library Promotion Act’ was amended to mandatorily assign one teacher librarian or librarian, or practical teacher to each school. However, the staffing rate of school librarian in Korean middle and high school libraries is only 45.6%. The workforce arrangement and Library service situation in Korea is not homogeneous. Library resources are also poor in Provincial, rural areas with a small number of children and adolescents. As for children and youth services in poor environments, it is urgent to come up with measures to expand the service without considering the cost-effectiveness. Proving the service performance of libraries, which are public goods, is inevitably slow, but it is not socially controversial that utmost efforts are needed to protect children and adolescents from the negative influence of social gaps. The manpower stipulated in the ‘School Library Promotion Act’ should be deployed as soon as possible even in relatively poor areas to bridge the educational gap between regions. I believe Every Librarian brings the Giants who enable us to see the invisible and reach the unreachable. Every Library with powerful librarian finally further strengthens the power to dream.Item Angel of Library: The Student-librarian(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-10-06) Gong, Jiaoteng; Zhou, LingyunIf library is heaven, then our student-librarians are adorable angels who come from students and in turn creatively and persistently promote resources, services, and reading/culture activities to the students. The project of Student-librarian was initiated in 2016, by recruiting students on campus to actively participate in planning and organizing reading/culture events (e.g., the Library Orientation for Freshmen) and routine library services (e.g., operation of XTU Library’s social media matrix). The student-librarians have the dual identity of students and librarians, and serve as a bridge building communicational links among the university library, colleges, departments, faculty and students. Such a special characteristic allows student-librarians to better exert peer influence and put what they learn into practice (especially for those major in library science), when being part of providing library services. The project not only enhangces the university library service, but also compensates for the inadequate human resources and funding of the library. By the year of 2022, there have been 390 student-librarians in this project, greatly contributing to develop and promote the university-wide reading events in the past seven years. In 2022 alone, the student-librarians planned and organized 75 activities, attracting more than 32,100 offline visits and 2.64 million online.Item APP 3 L – Books, Reading, Literacy: Portuguese public libraries, bookhops, festivals and authors in your hand(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-11-10) Duarte Eiras, Bruno3L App - Book, Reading, Literacy was developed under the Simplex initiative, a Government program aimed at enhancing the daily lives of citizens and businesses through ICT.
