Abstract: “Libraries in the Information Society” aims to bring together works related to the changing role of the library as a social institution in the emerging information society. The thematic scope of the articles in this collection ranges from conceptual considerations on Knowledge Economy/Society to purely practical issues of library management and sustainability in a transforming socio-cultural environment. The articles view libraries from a number of different perspectives. Libraries are evolving from institutions to conserve and provide access to a patrimony towards being service orientated, deploying marketing techniques and heavily demanded by the Information Society.
