Action Plan 2016-2017: Africa Section

The committee’s activities have been focused in six areas: 1) To promote and support the implementation of the International Advocacy (IAP) programme of IFLA in the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); 2) To continue to implement the Building Strong Library Association (BSLA) Programme in an effort to strengthen library associations on the continent; 3) To promote and support development programmes that focus on improved information use, reading and literacy in Africa; 4) To support the development of Public Libraries with emphasis on their specific role and the role of libraries in general in development; 5) To Advocate for the endorsement of the Cape Town Declaration by African countries that have not yet done so and advocate for improved access to information and knowledge for development in Africa; and 6) To promote education and continuing professional development for the library and information profession in Africa.
