This ranges across public, national, research, academic and special libraries and includes public and reference services, automated classification, special and research collections, archives and customer service through chatbots and discovery systems. Vendors are also adding elements of AI in new and existing library products including search and discovery and research platforms and recommender systems. The role and impact of AI present opportunities and challenges and open future possibilities. IT plays a significant role in the development and use of AI technologies, but ethical considerations and wider organizational thinking must also play an equally significant role. AI’s uses can have considerable impact and possible unintended consequences on library operations and services and wider societal implications. All of this is considered in this both pragmatic and wider philosophical text. This publication provides an opportunity to explore developing new library AI paradigms, including present use case practical implementation and opportunities on the horizon as well as current large ethics questions and needs for transparency, scenario planning, considerations and implications of bias as library AI systems are developed and implemented presently and for our collective future.Item Trends & Issues in Library Technology - December 2013(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2013-12-20) Balnaves, Edmund; Hoivik, Jingru; Azubuike, Felix; Chang, MayFrom the Section Chair / At IFLA 2013, Singapore / Global Village – Mobile Access to Library Resources / IT Section Sessions at IFLA 2014, Lyon / A Report on the 7th LITT National Workshop, Oct 2013, Nigeria / Book ReviewsItem Trends & Issues in Library Technology - December 2014(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2014-12-15) Balnaves, Edmund; Furnadzhieva, Silvina; Volkanova, Victoria; Lee, Yoo Young; Pak, Peter; Matthews, Gloria O.; Ogbebor, Osarome; Glatz, Jason; Chang, MayFrom the Section Chair / Web Site Usability and other Lessons Learned from Bulgaria / Book review: Next-Gen Library Redesign / Design of the Academic Library Website with Persuasive Technologies / eReads – NLB’s On-going Journey in Enhancing the e-Book User Experience / Deploying Social Media Platforms in the National Library of Nigeria / Using GIS in Libraries to Facilitate Decision MakingItem Trends & Issues in Library Technology - July 2014(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2014-06-03) Balnaves, Edmund; Kessler, Jack; Yu, Yi; Saito, Erica; Onuki dos Santos, André; Knight, Steve; Chang, MayFrom the Section Chair / IFLA 2014 IT Section Events and Activities / Chamonix Libraries: A Personal View / Building A New Generation Academic and Research Library / Cloud Computing in Brazilian Libraries and Implementation Challenges / What Would an Ideal Technical Registry for Digital Preservation Look Like? / Open Source for an Emerging DemocracyItem Trends and Issues in Library Technology (TILT) Newsletter, December 2021 / January 2022(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2021-12-23) Klapwijk, Wouter; Wingate Gray, Sara; Uzwyshyn, Ray; Wen Sze, Tan; Chee Kiam, Lim; Ying Yi, Chow; Fritz, Samantha; Mason, Ingrid; Leclaire, Céline; Balnaves, Edmund; IFLA Information Technology Section Standing Committee; Uzwyshyn, RayBig Data special issueItem Trends and Issues in Library Technology (TILT) Newsletter, January 2023(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2022-12-28) IFLA Information Technology Section Standing Committee; Balnaves, Edmund; Uzwyshyn, Ray; Boffy, François-Xavier; Sogoba, Souleymane; Akça, Sümeyye; Palma Peña, Juan Miguel; Klapwijk, Wouter; Kleinveldt, Lynn; Uzwyshyn, RayThe January 2023 issue of TILT newsletter collects international articles about natural language processing, topic modeling and cultural heritage archives, open science, metadata, AI, and agile IT management.Item Trends and Issues in Library Technology (TILT) Newsletter, June 2023(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-05-24) IFLA Information Technology Section Standing Committee; Cher, Patrick; Balnaves, Edmund; Boffy, François-Xavier; Uzwyshyn, Ray; Chilton, Galadriel; Gendreau, Jean-Sébastien; Sabourin, Mathieu; Timms, Kat; Yon, Angela; Uzwyshyn, RayThis is a thematic issue with several articles about agile project management methodology in libraries.
