Libraries play a crucial role as trusted community spaces and welcoming sanctuaries for all, regardless of their displacement, limbo state, or any kind of intersectional vulnerability they may face at the same time, like gender identity, childhood, third age, or disability. With this work libraries contribute to the two-way integration process: they empower displaced individuals to integrate into the host communities, helping them recover from their traumas, while they also allow both displaced and host communities to learn from each other and appreciate the cultural diversity. The first-ever IFLA guidelines for libraries supporting displaced populations aim to serve as a vehicle to expand the traditional role of librarianship, entering a new learning space for libraries.Item IFLA Guidelines for making libraries accessible for people with disabilities(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, 2024-12) IFLA Equitable and Accessible Library Services Section; Winkelstein, Julie; Bolt, NancyThese guidelines are a revision of the “Access to Libraries for Persons with Disabilities Checklist,” published in 2005. The original guidelines continue to be useful in libraries, but the climate concerning people with disabilities worldwide has changed significantly since the original publication. There has been notable progress in the field of library services to persons with disabilities, particularly in the areas of assistive technology, electronic formats, and online communication tools. These revised guidelines will allow libraries, disability groups, and support organizations to work together for effective library services to persons with disabilities. In addition, these partnerships will help promote accessible libraries in the community.Item IFLA Smernice za podršku Biblioteka raseljenim licima(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2025-03-07) Gerasimidou, Despina; Bolt, Nancy; Rakočević Uvodić, Maela; Okerson, Ann; Djenadic, MarinaSuočeni smo sa najvećom globalnom izbegličkom krizom od Drugog svetskog rata, te je podrška raseljenim licima jedna od najvažnijih stvari koje mi kao bibliotečka zajednica trenutno možemo da pružimo. Biblioteke igraju ključnu ulogu kao prostori zajednice kojima se veruje, u kojima su svi dobrodošli, bez obzira na njihovo raseljavanje, psihološko stanje, ili bilo koju vrstu intersekcionalne ranjivosti, kao što su rodni identitet, detinjstvo, treće doba ili invaliditet, sa kojima se mogu suočiti istovremeno. Ovim radom biblioteke doprinose dvosmernom procesu integracije: osnažuju raseljene pojedince da se integrišu u zajednice domaćina, pomažući im da se oporave od svojih trauma, dok takođe omogućavaju i raseljenim i zajednicama domaćinima da uče jedni od drugih i cene kulturnu raznolikost. It has been explored how leadership and management can make and demonstrate their commitment to accessibility and inclusion. The paper discussed the human rights and legal rights in serving people with disabilities and the basic roles of leaders/managers, such as: setting a mission and values for the staff that include accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities, establishing library policies, partnering with the disability community, setting priorities, and evaluating the success of serving people with disabilities. The paper also covers universal design, staff training, recruiting and hiring people with disabilities and their unique contribution to a library, the role of professional library associations, and the impact of COVID on serving people with disabilities.
