Green Technologies Work Together to Promote a Sustainable Future for Public Library – A Perspective from the Zhijiang Library
(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-09-25) Ren, Hongyu; Hong, Shuo
The poster mainly introduces the cutting-edge green technologies used during the conception and construction of the Zhijiang New Building project of Zhejiang Library, which started its construction in February 2019 and will meet with readers this June. As a provincial public library, including photovoltaic power generation, paperless office, intelligent data platforms, smart 3D bookshelves, book positioning systems, and different modern reading tools. It presents its own solutions for the sustainable development of public libraries in the future. Public libraries are important participants in society, and the new building of Zhejiang Library positions itself as "the gateway to knowledge, the university beside you", aiming to take advantage of green new technologies to create a brand new public cultural service model. In the design and construction process, the project actively innovates in office technology and infrastructure, using affordable and clean energy to minimize paper pollution and other environmental issues. While promoting the intelligent development of the library, it also coordinates the relationship between user needs, library development, and environmental protection, addressing social needs such as education, health, and heritage protection, in order to contribute to the sustainable development of public libraries in the future. Therefore, it meets the requirements of SDGs and supports particularly Goals 4/7/9/12, as well as the theme of this conference.
