ACTION PLANS for 2004– 2005 included following goals: To facilitate the sharing of information and ideas among social science information professionals; To accomplish the action plans set out in Goal I, the Standing Committee will be expanded to 20 active members; In order to reflect IFLA’s global mission more fully, the Standing Committee will seek greater geographic/cultural diversity among its new members; The Section will actively seek to expand its membership.

Objectives:  The Section will examine different aspects of social science libraries and create a strategic document (Wiki, Website, etc.) to promote economic development and to empower citizens for a participatory society. Contribution to the IFLA Strategic Plan/Key initiatives 1 & 2.  The Section will establish collaborations with IFLA sections representing regions in order to include diverse and global perspective on issues. Contribution to the IFLA Strategic Plan/Key Initiative 3 & 4.  The Section will promote the highlights of recent Section activities and future directions to the IFLA community. Contribution the IFLA Strategic Plan Contribution to Key Initiative 4.

Objectives 1. The Section will host a workshop on ethnographic research methods that librarians can use to better understand their libraries, their users, and how their services and collections are used. Contribution to the IFLA Strategic Plan/Key Initiatives 1 & 2. 2. The Section will analyse the IFLA Library corpus for trends in social science research to develop a more thorough understanding of the social science literature contained in the IFLA Library; the study will seek to identify patterns in subject/disciplinary coverage, in library settings being studied, and geographical interest and focus, and, finally, identifying and providing insights about the role of IFLA in influencing social science libraries and information centres around the globe. Contribution to the IFLA Strategic Plan/Key Initiatives 1 & 2. 3. The Section will continue to collaborate with Relindial, IFLA Sections and other Special Interest Groups in order to include diverse perspectives on the role of social science libraries in IFLA, in society, and within a global vision of libraries. Contribution to the IFLA Strategic Plan/Key Initiatives 3 & 4.

Objectives for 2017-2018 are: 1. Offer learning opportunities to a broad audience related to the use of text/data mining to support development of the social sciences in solving global problems. 2. Analyse the IFLA Library corpus for trends in social science research to develop a more thorough understanding of the social science literature contained in the IFLA Library 3. We would like to define and describe how the social sciences fit into the concepts of text mining and digital humanities through the presentation of a program at WLIC in Kuala Lumpur.

The Annual Report highlights main activities of the IFLA Social Science Libraries Section-Standing Committee (SSLS-SC) and the IFLA Religious Libraries Special Interest Group (Relindial )for the year 2014. The main highlights of the year under review were: The IFLA Lyon conference 2014, the formulation of a strategic plan for 2015, the publication of three Newsletter issues, and Section web page completion. Strong collaboration with partner Special Interest Groups enabled the Section to undertake more activities than would have been possible. We thank both the IFLA Religious Libraries in Dialogue Special Interest Group and the IFLA Women, Information & Libraries Special Interest Group for the wonderful spirit of collaboration.
