Application of CIDOC CRM for Events of the Epos Shahnameh with Especial Focus on Geographical Places
(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2023-10-06) Niknia, Massoomeh
Regarding Persian literature, the Shahnameh (Persian: شاهنامه translated into English: "The Book of Kings") is a long epic poem written by the Persian poet 'Abul-Qâsem Ferdowsi Tusi' between C. 977 and 1010 CE and is the national epic of Greater Iran.. Events are a very important part of Shahnameh; if they are extracted and coded manually, the elements related to them such as geographical places, actors and time-spans are also extracted. Developing a project database is one of the most important parts of the original plan. As it is clear, the original plan is a CIDOC CRM-based mapping for the events of the epos Shahnameh with special focus on geographical places. The CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CRM) is a theoretical and practical tool for information integration in the field of cultural heritage. The main purpose of this research is that the events of Shahnameh are modelled based on the CIDOC CRM and the users can read the Shahnameh interactively. They would gain access to its events and can easily retrieve geographical places related to events in the map and text – in other words; read Shahnameh in an interactive and a nonlinear mode.
