A IFLA trabalha para promover um campo forte e globalmente unido de bibliotecas como uma força propulsora de sociedades letradas, informadas e participativas, e coloca a importância do acesso à informação no centro de seus valores. Com membros em quase 150 países, a instituição é tanto a voz mundial da profissão de bibliotecário quanto da informação, e o centro principal para desenvolver padrões, partilhar boas práticas, capacitar e criar conexões entre bibliotecas e associações de bibliotecas em nível mundial. O Grupo de Tecnologia e Mudança Social [Technology & Social Change Group - TASCHA] da Faculdade de Informação da Universidade de Washington explora o papel das tecnologias digitais na construção de sociedades mais abertas, inclusivas e igualitárias. O TASCHA é um elo de pesquisa multidisciplinar cujo trabalho tem ajudado organizações internacionais, governos, organizações da sociedade civil e bibliotecas públicas nos Estados Unidos e em mais de 50 outros países. Gostaríamos de agradecer as contribuições de nossos autores convidados, bem como das equipes da IFLA e do TASCHA, cujos trabalhos tornaram este relatório possível, em especial as contribuições de Maria Violeta Bertolini e May Oostrom-Kwok (IFLA), e Chris Jowaisis, Chris Coward e Doug Parry (TASCHA) O relatório original foi criado graças às contribuições de muitas pessoas que ajudaram a desenvolver o conceito e a selecionar os indicadores utilizados. This was the first DA2I report, which sets the baseline to measure progress on a range of indicators of access to information and its relation to sustainable development. It demonstrates how access to information and libraries contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This fact sheet offers an overview of key indicators affecting development and access to information across the globe.Item Development and Access to Information 2019(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2019-05-23) International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA); Technology & Social Change Group (TASCHA); Garrido, Maria; Wyber, StephenIn response to governments’ commitment to promote meaningful access to information (A2I) as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the report provides a range of indicators of how well countries are performing. Looking at four different pillars of access – connectivity, social and cultural norms, skills and laws – it gives insights into the different dimensions of meaningful access to information. Drawing on the rich experience of IFLA, it also includes a particular focus on libraries, sharing evaluated case-studies of how they promote more socially and economically inclusive societies. Finally, each DA2I report has a focus on the SDGs selected for review at the HLPF in the year of publication. The 2019 edition features thematic chapters by guest authors on how access to information promotes the achievement of each of the following SDGs: Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). The DA2I initiative is based on the conviction that access to information is an essential precondition for development. Without it, decision-making is poorer, democracy is weaker, and progress is slower towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
