    University of Malaya librarian's (UML) involvement towards Marrakesh Treaty: Serving people with disabilities

    As the awareness of inclusive literacy is widespread nowadays, the Marrakesh Treaty has become one of the national agendas in many countries. No exception, Malaysia is moving toward to intersection with the treaty which aligns with the Malaysia Persons with Disabilities Act 2008. As information professionals, librarians should know very well the impact of the treaty in library fields. Therefore, the objective of this poster is to present the involvement of Malaysian librarians in rectifying the Marrakesh treaty. In making sure the success of the Marrakesh Treaty, the Malaysian Librarians Association, National Library of Malaysia and Academic Librarian have actively collaborated with several advocacy agencies such as Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. A series of discussions, workshops and meetings were set up to discuss the impact of the treaty, copyright and the strategies of implementation. One of the highly anticipated activities was the revision of the Malaysia Copyright Act. A series of awareness programs, workshops and publications were planned in making sure the success of the treaty. The involvement of Malaysian librarians showcases the dynamic roles of the librarian in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and IFLA Strategy 2019-2024. Additionally, this involvement will build a strong presence among local and international organizations as a valued partner. Thus, this will strengthen the global voice of libraries.
