Women’s Practices in the Time of the Pandemic

Abstract

The project titled Women’s Practices in the Time of the Pandemic is a trailblazer attempt by a Serbian CH institution to listen to, record, digitise and preserve the experiences of women during the pandemic, through storytelling, a web archive collection and a series of lectures. Stories of women from our surroundings have been collected and made available online, revealing the experiences of daughters, mothers, wives and grandmothers, and their dedication to their families, as well as their professions. In the pandemic, they have been all that and much more. Their fight has not been limited to the virus – they have also been fighting for health, survival and the well-being of their families. They have been innovative, creative and dedicated. We can all identify with the stories they have shared. The web archive collection is an effort to preserve an accurate account of women’s practices through the selection of content from different media – daily newspapers, weeklies, magazines, information portals and blogs – collected over six months – from October 2021 until March 2022. The links are in Serbian, but the topics they deal with cross the borders of the country, pointing to the fact that women across the globe have faced similar issues in this altered everyday life. Video lectures, which are available online, follow the idea of hearing the opinions of academic experts from various perspectives. They presented their research insights pointing to the fact that women have faced many extra burdens and difficulties on top of the existing ones related to their specific gender roles.
