Title: Digital Public Goods: a Briefing for Libraries
Authors: International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)
Keywords: Subject::Digital library services
Subject::Digital repositories
Subject::UN Sustainable Development Goals
Issue Date: 28-Apr-2023
Abstract: The idea that a key way in which governments can support development is through the provision of Digital Public Goods has become prominent in the work of the UN in recent years. This bridges work both around the future of internet governance (notably the Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, and now preparations for the Global Digital Compact), and the wider work towards the Summit of the Future (based on Our Common Agenda in 2021). Given how high a profile this idea has, it is useful to understand what it means, and how libraries can draw on it as part of their own advocacy. This briefing aims to do just this.
