Enrichir le catalogue local avec des données bibliographiques exposées : interactions avec le catalogue national via web service

Abstract

Les efforts d'interopérabilité occupent une place importante dans la travail d'ingénierie documentaire. L'enrichissement du catalogue en est un objectif majeur. De cette préoccupation est née l'idée d'exploiter un web service de l'ABES pour proposer une fonctionnalité du type "En savoir plus sur cet auteur" accessible depuis une vue sur la notice d'autorité, utilisable lors de la consultation de l'OPAC. Ce web service ramène directement des informations en provenance d'IdRef, le référentiel des autorités du SUDOC et expose les formes abrégées des notices liées à une autorité donnée, classés par code de fonction. La réponse en XML ou en JSON est travaillée de façon à être conforme à la charte graphique du SIGB et ne pas occasionner de rupture dans la chaîne de l'information. Une problématique générale expose les enjeux et le contexte dans lequel ce web service a été imaginé. Une connaissance du schéma général d'organisation du réseau ABES est utile à la compréhension de cette fonctionnalité ; la structure collaborative est brièvement décrite. L'articulation entre les bases locale et nationale se fait par l'entremise d'un script PHP dont les grandes étapes sont détaillées. Enfin ce projet devant servir d'expérimentation pour aller plus loin et exploiter d'autres interactions de ce type, il est également important de mesurer les perspectives d'avenir que ces nouvelles méthodes d'accès à l'information peuvent ouvrir. La mise en œuvre de cette fonctionnalité a contribué à explorer et stabiliser de nouvelles méthodes de développement de projet, à s'interroger sur l'ouverture du catalogue à l'univers de la connaissance et à sa potentielle utilisation comme un outil de découverte. Il réinterroge l'interdépendance entre le catalogue local et le SUDOC et a la vertu de poser les problématiques selon une approche centrée utilisateur.

Interoperability efforts represent a significant part within the fieldwork of documentary engineering. The enhancement of its catalog is one of its primary objectives. From that preoccupation came the idea of using a web service of the ABES in order to offer a functionality such as “Get more information about this author” accessible from a view on the authority record, usable during the consultation of the OPAC. This web service brings back directly pieces of information coming from IdRef, the authority database reference of the SUDOC and displays the abbreviated forms of the different records linked to a given authority, classified by relator code. The response in XML or in JSON is elaborated in order to be in compliance with the graphic charter of the ILS and to not create any disruption through the chain of information.

A general problematic assumption shows the high stakes and the context in which this web service was imagined and designed. A global expertise of the general outline of the ABES network is useful when trying to understand this functionality; the collaborative structure is briefly described. The articulation between the local and the national bases is made possible with the mediation of a PHP script whose major steps are detailed. Finally, as this project is aimed at being an experiment to reach further and operate other interactions of this kind, it is also important to apprehend the perspectives for the future that such new methods of accessing information can open.

The implementation of this functionality has contributed to explore and stabilize new methods of project developments, but also to question the opening of the catalog on the universe of knowledge and to its potential use as a discovery tool. It questions again the interdependence between the local catalog and the SUDOC and has the virtue to set the issues according to a user-centered design.
