The library profession is a mediating discipline, one that supports the research and development of multiple disciplines and that of the public good. Advances in technology, rapidly shifting demographics and other dynamics have resulted in our profession working to readily adapt to these challenging changes. Despite our efforts to date, minimal, the profession is behind in its efforts to address the foundational issues of racism and disparities in LIS research in and library services for multicultural communities. The incorporation of cultural competency standards throughout the field of library and information science would improve its climate for diversity, address the lack of diversity, and enhance retention as well as improve its service outcomes.en
