Changing the mindset of a profession needs a strategy: deliberate choices to do things differently, building on our unique strengths for a specific outcome. The New York Library Association’s Sustainability Initiative has set out to do just that and has employed techniques to accelerate its success to help professionals, institutions and communities adopt the concept of “sustainable thinking.” This paper explores the beliefs, philosophies and guiding principles that accelerated the work of this initiative that are replicable for wider adoption of sustainability work in our profession.en
