dc.description.abstract | This paper explores how Japanese public libraries preserve and activate regional food heritage through tools such as pathfinders, community events, and workshops. Libraries are increasingly acting as cultural facilitators, shifting from preserving knowledge to transmitting intangible cultural heritage. Based on an analysis of 56 pathfinders created between 2015-2025, selected for their focus on themes related to regional food heritage –such as Kyodo Ryori (traditional local cuisine), Wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets), and food cultures rooted in local customs and seasonal practices. The study examines their thematic scope and community relevance. A comparative review reveals that even small municipalities engage in culinary heritage to foster local identity and participation. Case studies of the Ishikawa Prefectural Library and the Tsuruoka City Library demonstrate diverse strategies that blend digital archives, intergenerational learning, and event-based engagement.
