This paper outlines how the British Library is meeting the challenge of future news preservation, storage and access. It tracks the transition from traditional hard copy collections of newspapers in a collection with content dating back from the 1800’s to today through to the current transformational changes taking place with the creation of a modern, sophisticated low oxygen physical storage environment. It also outlines the collection challenges involved in migrating from a core newspaper collection to a news content strategy which captures and makes available multimedia formats.en
