Item Annual Report 2017-2018: Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2018-11) Wise, Steve; IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section Standing CommitteeThe Annual Report records the Section's achievements and progress in relation to the Action Plan for the last year. These are the activities that were completed during the year: 1. Stage the Section’s annual IFLAPARL satellite meeting The 2018 IFLAPARL one-day pre-conference was held was held in Kuala Lumpur's Convention Centre on the 24th of August. The theme was 'Transforming parliamentary libraries and research services to meet changing clients’ needs' 2. The Section organised 2018 WLIC session "Transforming Library & Research Services for Parliamentary Impact." The Section also cooperated with other IFLA sections to arrange a popular knowledge café on how continuous learning can prepare information professionals for the future, as well as a session with government libraries on evidence-based policy making and supporting UN sustainable development goals as well as a presentation on the use of the Guidelines for Parliamentary Research Services. 3. Communication to members: The Section issued two issues of the newsletter translated by the Mexican Chamber of Deputies into Spanish. The Section reviewed its web pages updating content and fixing broken links. 4. The Section facilitated a discussion on best practice and standards for ethics in parliamentary libraries and research services and published related checklists on the Section webpageItem Annual Report 2018-2019: Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2019-12) Wise, Steve; IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section Standing CommitteeThe Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section (‘IFLAPARL’) Annual Report covers the period September 2018-August 2019. The purpose is to inform the Professional Committee, the Section’s Standing Committee, members of the Section and the profession around the world of work done over the year. The Guidelines provide a comprehensive overview of the work of parliamentary libraries and research services. There is an analysis of the main characteristics and information needs of parliamentarians. The main services which may be provided are described in detail, including collections, information, research and the physical space of the reading rooms. Essential technical and administrative aspects of running a parliamentary library are covered; these include structure and governance, finance, staffing and ICT. There is also a brief guide to additional services which some parliamentary libraries provide, including archives and services for the public
