Now in its 3rd edition, the aim of the Guidelines is to help develop and promote standards and best practice in making information and knowledge available to parliaments. The Guidelines provide a comprehensive overview of the work of parliamentary libraries and research services. The main services which may be provided are described in detail, including collections, information, research and the physical space of the reading rooms. Essential technical and administrative aspects of running a parliamentary library are covered; these include structure and governance, finance, staffing and ICT. There is also a brief guide to additional services which some parliamentary libraries provide, including archives and services for the public
