Abstract

The 3 years of the pandemic highlight the doubling of the number of higher education students with declared mental health problems. Working together is best exemplified by the University of the Philippines Library experience in establishing the Student Wellness, - from implementation to operationalization. It showcases the collaborative work of the library in addressing the mental health conditions of students with Professional Groups (Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and Guidance Counsellors) – for counseling and therapy, the Alumni – for resource generation and mobilization, the Faculty – for monitoring and mentoring; and the Administration – for policy direction. Good academic performance leads to quality education (SDG 4) and productivity leads to a quality life. How can students be productive if they are not psychologically and mentally well? How can they meet the rigors of academic life if they are battling with a lot of stress and anxiety? Doing well at university is intimately related to being well, and mental ill-health significantly compromises the ability of students to cope with, and keep up with the demands of their studies. This experience can serve as an inspiration for libraries who wish to innovate and create refuge and safe space for library users in the post-pandemic period.
