Abstract

In the AI era, students increasingly face information overload, shallow reading, and emotional isolation. To address these challenges, South Korean school libraries implemented school read-aloud activities aimed at cultivating literacy and connecting hearts. Students practiced shared reading via Morning and Classroom Read-Alouds, alongside Reading Buddies. They also experienced gamified approaches like BTS (Books Toward Solutions) and Read-Aloud Board Games. Furthermore, students recorded their voices, which were shared through Scan-to-Listen Poetry Exhibits and open-space audio installations. The project culminated in diverse celebrations such as Shadow Theater and Literary Concerts. Alongside this, teacher read-aloud groups were organized, sharing best practices and expanding the culture through teacher training and book talks. The outcomes were transformative. Passive, solitary readers became active, connected participants. Students developed enhanced literacy, deeper comprehension, and self-confidence by embracing their unique voices. Stronger bonds formed across the school community, and participating educators documented these field experiences in a co-authored book. Ultimately, this poster demonstrates that reading aloud extends beyond mere reading—it is a powerful catalyst for connecting people and transforming lives.
