Abstract

Old Korean Newspapers refer to newspapers that were published in Korea from 1883 to 1960 but have ceased publication today. ‘Hanseongsunbo’ is the first newspaper published in Korea. There are more such as the 'Independent Newspaper' and 'Hwangseong Newspaper'. The National Library of Korea digitizes the old newspapers and provides free online access to millions of high-quality newspaper pages through Korean Newspaper Archive. Through the old newspapers, you can not only check important historical facts, but also get a glimpse of the times and society in general, big and small events, price information and so on. It is also meaningful as you can learn about the culture of the era by reading serial novels, photos and advertisements. Such information does not just remain as past materials, but has significant impact on our present life by contributing to individual creative activities, education, research and even the content industry such as broadcasting and movies. The Korean Newspaper Archive is much more than just digitizing and permanently preserving old newspapers. It is a bridge to connect the past and the present.
