Abstract
Last October The KB National Library organized it’s first Fake News Festival. Together with its visitors, The KB National Library of the Netherlands dove into the history of fake news. With the help of online investigation collective Bellingcat and a line-up of renowned journalists, we discovered why fake news is made, how it is produced and distributed. We also invited a youth & media organisation to tell us more about how social media effects the teenagers brain.
The KB organised this festival because it holds the freedom of information and opinion formation in the highest regards. As a library we support these goals by hosting public programmes and representing a safe and neutral space to research and reflect.
The festival was a big success and the visitors giant more awareness and understanding about the mechanism of fake news through the speakers and our historical collection. We are planning a second festival in 2024.
