Abstract

The poster presents an international project Enhancing Key Civic Competences for the Post-truth Era: News Literacy and Critical Thinking (ESSENTIAL), which was implemented from October 2020 to September 2022, with the support of the EU, within the Erasmus+ Programme, through the intersectoral partnership between Belgrade City Library (Serbia), National Library of Latvia, Hacettepe University (Turkey) and University for Adult Education Zalec (Slovenia). Specific project objectives were: a.) To improve available resources of partners and other stakeholders in the field of news literacy and critical thinking, to actively educate citizens. b.) To improve news literacy skills of adults and youth from 4 partner countries and worldwide. c.) To create multilingual online course that enables citizens, i.e. teachers/trainers/librarians, to acquire or improve their knowledge of news literacy and use it as a resource during the teaching process. The poster presents the project and its main results in an original, entertaining way through a series of fake news containing a combination of correct and incorrect information. In this way, the observer is invited to conclude on his own what is true and what is not, and at the same time, attention is drawn to the spread of fake news and the importance of news literacy nowadays.
