Working with the 2030 Agenda: a Survey of IFLA Units

Abstract

IFLA units value the UN 2030 Agenda as a framework for supporting them to think systematically about their wider impact on the world. Survey responses show that they have helped inspire a wide range of activities carried out by units, as well as partnerships. Nonetheless, in some cases it is other frameworks that provide a more readily used reference point.

There is nonetheless an implementation gap, with units less frequently reporting that the SDGs have helped them define targets, or that they have engaged in official SDG-related processes, despite the opportunities these create for impact.

Looking to the post-2030 Agenda, there is ongoing support for a framework like the SDGs that can help shape planning, but also a need for more explicit recognition of libraries, as well as practical tools to help identify how they can contribute.
