Minutes of meeting: IFLA Regional Council, 24 February 2026

Abstract

The sixth meeting of the Regional Council 2025-2027 was held virtually on 24 February 2026. The meeting opened with updates from the Regional Council Chair, the Secretary General, the President, and the Professional Council Chair, covering recent external engagements, strategic priorities, governance developments, and ongoing collaboration between IFLA bodies. A central item was a thematic deep-dive on regional experiences with the Trend Report, highlighting its value as a strategic framework alongside challenges related to accessibility, participation, and practical application. Discussions emphasised the need for more inclusive, participatory, and forward-looking approaches in the development of the 2027 report. Progress on delivering the Regional Council Action Plan was reviewed, including updates on leadership coordination, working group activities, and cross-structure collaboration. Additional items included the introduction of a revised self-reflection approach for Regional Division Committees, preparations for the Regional Council session at WLIC 2026, and planning for future thematic discussions.
