Abstract
In response to the trend towards sustainability and the idea of “global thinking, local action” Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch continues to collect, display and evaluate ecology books. It has also actively established partnerships with both the public and private sector for a series of sustainability promotion events, including fixed and dynamic displays exhibited inside and outside the library focused on World Environment Day.
1. Environmental protection agencies – use of games to promote sustainable policies
2. Experts – practical instruction on how to conserve energy, reader guidance for environment picture books
3. Civic groups – introduction to the natural environment around the library, draw up a community green living map
The library invited representatives of the government, industry and academia from the community to work with citizen scientist groups formed by readers, with the objective of linking sustainable understanding, affection and action, through the sharing of knowledge, environment, community encounters and dialogue. In this way, it was possible to connect readers and sustainable living, with the library transformed into an organic green knowledge ark pointing the way to a sustainable future.
