Abstract

The mission of digital repositories in academic libraries is to support educational programs, enahance research , and organize and share knowledge. I-Goals of digital repositories in academic libraries: More specifically, the goals of digital repositories in academic libraries are: 1- To create awarness about the importance of knowledge in the academic life. 2- To ease access of information resources. 3- To provide high_standard services to the academic community 4- To enhance user’s positive attitude towards digital knowledge. 5- To develop robust infrastructure for digital contenent of value to scholars and researchers ; including a variety of formats and born-digital materials. 6- To build and preserve collection; print and digital materials. 7- To reduce long-term capital and operating costs of storage and care of print collections though redoubled efforts to coordinate shared storage strategies among libraries. 8- To share research materials and findings with others. 9- To support open aceess and knowledge sharing and long term preservation. II-Avantages of digital repositories in the academic libraries: 1- Serve a wide array of needs. 2- Include data sets, historical collections and digitalized versions of library collections. 3- Easy collaboration and sharing between multiple libraries. 4- Provide self services. 5- Sustain free availability of their contents to thier commumities. 6- Support research, learning and scientific processes. III-Additional services provided by digital repositories 1- RSS services 2- Free access for sources. 3- Collect statistics for adherents of it’s organization of sources that have been downloaded.
