dc.description.abstract"IFLA as the Global Voice of Librarianship: It has been stated emphatically throughout the last decade that there is a definite trend towards the expansion of librarianship to include 'information in all of its fascinating aspects and alluring prospects'. The inevitable question that follows is whether IFLA can make true its claim to its function as the global voice of librarianship by providing firm leadership in addressing to the world at large major issues of vital concern to global librarianship. Is it no more than a dream that IFLA would be able to give such leadership or is the organization living up to expectations in the realization of this goal?" Report to the Council - 1985 by Secretary General, Margreet Wijnstroom
