There is an unequal power balance between children and adults. As adults we have the responsibility to compensate for the children´s lack of power - they can’t vote and they don’t hold any power positions in the society. Therefore the rights of the child are stated in the 54 different articles the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child. Every country in the world has ratified this convention. Article number 3 of the convention stresses that all decisions taken should be taken with regard to the best interest of the child. A lot of important decisions which has impact on children is taken by the library leader. It is the responsibility of the library leader – not the children´s librarian - to ensure the fulfillment of the rights of the child as they are stated in the 54 articles of the UNCRC. This is why we want to raise awareness of the UNCRC amongst the library leaders. Our poster shows a simple strategic model in 8 steps that will reduce the inequalities (Sustainable Development Goal number 10) by helping the library leaders of the world to implement the rights of the child in their organization. The model has been developed in Sweden in cooperation with five public library directors.
