dc.description.abstract"In the present report a brief overview is given of the growth of IFLA since 1971, the year in which [Herman] Liebaers took IFLA firmly in hand and placed the Secretariat in The Hague. The emphasis in the chapter on the professional grassroots lies in this report with the Division of Libraries Serving the General Public, as the Secretary General [Margreet Wijnstroom] wanted to remain true to her grassroots in this - her last - report. The main emphasis is placed, however, on the Advancement of Librarianship in the Third World (the so-called ALP core programme) for several reasons which will become obvious when reading the special annex on ALP attached to this report."
