Abstract

Kelantan, a state in Malaysia, possesses valuable treasures related to its history, culture, and heritage. However, these treasures faced a major risk of disappearing as they have not been fully explored, collected and preserved. Therefore, the Kelantan Public Library has taken the initiative as a hub for the collection, restoration, and preservation of the state’s heritage materials, the Kelantan Heritage Collection. The existing collection does not yet encompass the entirety of Kelantan’s heritage, and the available materials require proper care and conservation. To preserve the state’s cultural identity, the Kelantan Public Library actively collects unexplored heritage materials, enhances its collection, and provides valuable references for future generations. It conducts fieldwork, interviews the community, gathers donations, digitizes materials, and showcases them through exhibitions and online portals. The main purpose of these efforts is to raise public awareness of Kelantan’s history and to serve as a reference for present and future generations, including students, researchers, agencies, and the global community. The Kelantan Heritage Collection is housed at the Kelantan Public Library. The implementation of these initiatives has enabled more systematic approach to preserving and conserving Kelantan’s heritage, improved user access, and ensured the sustainability of the state’s cultural legacy for future generations.
