Abstract

The need for digital workflows, tools and, above all, digital skills will increase significantly in the future, driven by AI and the growing flood of information that is becoming increasingly openly accessible. Against this backdrop, the role of libraries will continue to evolve, particularly in the areas of open science, digital literacy and information assessment. The library, as a well-established "third place", needs to find valid responses to these challenges. In particular, it must also protect vulnerable groups as digitisation creates new barriers: e-books are currently poorly tagged for accessibility, complex research datasets are incomprehensible to the blind, and both physical and virtual work environments are often poorly designed for people with disabilities. To assess the state and openness of one's institution in the face of these challenges, there is the Open Library Badge (OLB, https://badge.openbiblio.eu/). The poster summarises the criteria of the OLB and links to the English translation prepared by the poster author (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7689137, the OLB site is currently in German only). It also refers to best practices of OLB holders, such as the author's institution, including the development of open source software or the provision of open educational resources, e.g. for the management of research data.
