Decoding the Past, Coding the Future - A Multidimensional Approach via the iMUST InfoLit Series

Abstract

The iMUST INFOLIT Series is a flagship information literacy initiative developed by the Library of Macau University of Science and Technology. Anchored in the spirit of “i”—integrating Self (I), Information, and Intelligence - the series illuminates pathways to knowledge and innovation in the AI era.

The program features six thematic tracks and 37 lectures, covering library resource navigation, advanced literature retrieval, subject database, AI-enabled research, academic publishing, and community learning. Signature sessions include Global Mapping of Macao which decodes rare ancient maps to reconnect local heritage with global history; Critical Thinking in the AI Era, fostering skills in question reframing, source tracing, and reflective evaluation of AI limitations; and AI-Assisted Python, workshop using AI tools to reduce programming anxiety and extract insights from Chinese news and social data. The series also addresses intellectual property literacy and exploration of digital art resources. With over 2,900 participants and 150+ lectures, the iMUST INFOLIT Series has operationalized its IMPACT vision, encompassing Identity, Mastery, Perspective, Accountability, Capability, and Transformation.

Through interdisciplinary design and practice oriented learning, the programme systematically strengthens learners’ critical thinking, research competence, and cultural literacy - demonstrating how contemporary libraries can evolve into dynamic hubs for independent thinking, creative exploration, and responsible innovation.
