Abstract
The IFLA Guidelines for Professional LIS Education Programmes serve as a framework for developing library and information science/studies (LIS) education programmes. They present key LIS foundational knowledge areas (FKAs) and the elements for a robust LIS education programme. They replace the 2012 IFLA Guidelines for Professional Library/Information Educational Programs. The new Guidelines promote the quality of LIS education programmes at undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education levels in the preparation of LIS professionals for a dynamic global information environment. The Guidelines should be consulted when planning and developing a new programme, or when assessing an existing programme to ensure that it meets local quality criteria and institutional missions, while being aligned with these international quality guidelines. The Guidelines, grounded in the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, are of interest to LIS education administration, academic staff, students, professional practitioners, government, professional bodies, and other stakeholders engaged with knowledge and skills expected of LIS professionals.
