My poster presentation focuses on innovative library programs that foster an engaging and inspiring reading/research culture and how the role of the librarian has changed, as we now have to advocate for ourselves and our positions. This programming, in turn, is used as a back door advocacy tool to connect with the "powers that be." The paradigm has shifted; the school library has to become much more than it traditionally once was. Sadly, however, many school librarian positions are being eliminated across the globe. Decision-makers and lawmakers do not know the power and meaningful impact of a school library and a school librarian. School librarians need a booming voice and stalwart advocate to showcase their skills and their countless contributions. Our profession needs someone to be empowering so each of us can become crusaders in our schools. Using innovative library programming as an advocacy tool is a method that works, should be shared and celebrated by all librarians, and one that I speak to directly.en_US
