| dc.description.abstract | As Generative AI transforms the information landscape, public libraries play a pivotal role in fostering digital equity through inclusive education. This project highlights a strategic partnership between the Community Workshop Series (CWS) at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Data and Information Sciences (UNC SDIS) and two local public libraries to launch a foundational AI literacy program. The curriculum demystifies AI for adult patrons by fostering familiarity and critical awareness, helping community members navigate these tools effectively and understand their societal impact. To evaluate the program in Spring 2026, a post-workshop survey measured shifts in participant confidence and self-efficacy. The survey utilizes a 5-point Likert scale to compare confidence levels regarding AI before and after the class, while also measuring participants’ grasp of ethical complexities and the accessibility of instructional support. Qualitative feedback captures specific areas where participants feel most empowered and identifies the evolving needs of the community. By treating the curriculum as an evolving educational resource, this project establishes a dynamic framework for continuous digital literacy. | |
