Abstract

A public library, at the very heart of a community’s social vitality, is the most socially-inclusive place for connecting minds: to learn and reflect, to meet, interact, and exchange ideas. It is also an ideal place for shaping the character and behaviour of its community. As a strategic nation-building agent, the Selangor Public Library Corporation—in collaboration with a local well-established publisher, Kumpulan Media Karangkraf—launched a “therapy with Al-Qur’an” programme, #MalaysiaNgaji. During the specific time of the day, all the participants will focus to learn and reflect on any chosen chapter of the Qur’an.

#MalaysiaNgaji was first organized during Ramadhan last year, the fasting month of Muslims. Its aims are to spark the love for reading the Qur’an, and to inculcate the use of the Qur’an as spiritual tools in changing one’s mindset, heart-set, and behaviour. It is in line with the library’s mission in helping the state government to reduce crime rate and social ills.

Inspired by the nationwide success of the library’s other reading initiative, this programme is organized in such a way that anyone could also participate at one’s own place, and share it at any social media network by using the same hashtag.
