| dc.description.abstract | The Guidelines for Audiovisual Resources in Libraries and Other Institutions provide a framework for good practice in managing and ensuring equitable access to audiovisual resources in libraries and related institutions. Members of the IFLA Audiovisual and Multimedia Section undertook a comprehensive revision of the Guidelines, last published in 2004 and circulated as a draft in 2017. This revision responds to profound transformations in the audiovisual landscape, driven by rapid technological change. The updated Guidelines address emerging challenges and opportunities related to metadata management and automated description, accessibility for users with disabilities, media literacy, and the growing role of libraries in combating disinformation. They also examine the implications of artificial intelligence for the discovery, description, and delivery of audiovisual content. Substantial structural changes include new chapters on literacy, accessibility, and AI perspectives, as well as revised sections on professional development, access, collection development, cataloguing and metadata, rights and licensing, and preservation.
