Abstract
IFLA’s Common Practices for National Bibliographies in the digital age aims at providing accurate guidance on current common practice to assist those seeking information for creating and maintaining a national bibliography. It is not intended to be prescriptive, since bibliographic control varies widely from country to country and local requirements may be influenced by financial, legal or practical constraints. A number of potential options are presented to enable their application to be tailored according to circumstances, with examples and use cases given to illustrate the possible range of approaches. It is created and maintained by IFLA’s Bibliography Section; its predecessors were the web publication Best Practice for National Bibliographic Agencies in a Digital Age (2014-2017) and the original printed National Bibliographies in the Digital Age: Guidance and New Directions (2009).
