| dc.description.abstract | The Selangor Public Library Corporation strengthens its role as a community hub through Illustrators' Lane, a programme that supports local illustrators while promoting inclusive content and creative talent. Inspired by the Frankfurt Book Fair and backed by the National Book Council of Malaysia, the library partnered with the family of legendary artist Yusof Gajah. This collaboration birthed the 2023 Yusof Gajah Illustration Award, which directly inspired the creation of Illustrators' Lane (formerly Illustrators' Corner). The rebranded linear showcase maximizes public engagement and visibility across major state book fairs. For under RM50 daily, the initiative offers an accessible marketplace and digital promotional toolkits to emerging creators. It has empowered 58 local illustrators, including a teenage participant with Autism Spectrum Disorder, showcasing the program's deeply inclusive nature.Featured works include multilingual children's books and creative merchandise highlighting cultural heritage and environmental awareness. To date, the project has generated over RM20,000 in book revenue and RM22,000 via library merchandise purchases, averaging RM1,000 to RM2,000 per artist per event. Ultimately, Illustrators' Lane drives the local creative economy, transforming public libraries into dynamic, inclusive learning spaces. | |
