Abstract

The National Library of Nigeria which was established in September 1964 has the vision to connect and build an informed citizenry and a mission to collect, preserve and provide easy access to knowledge leveraging ICT. The Readership Intervention is geared towards ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all thereby actualizing the Sustainable Development Goal 4 while connecting with Agenda 2063 goals on education. The National Library of Nigeria through the Readership interventions have established reading clubs, organized reading competitions amongst students, donate books, shelves to schools, help the “hard to reach” communities, the inmates at the correctional centers to acquire basic literacy and numeracy skills that provides learning opportunities to them. The internally displaced persons can easily have access to reading resources, pregnant women were taught reading to fetus in the womb, while the passengers and workers at motor parks are exposed to basic literacy skills to unlock their potentials and to gainfully utilize their travel hours. The National Library of Nigeria serves as the heart of the Nation contributing to ensuring social progress and a sustainable future.
