Abstract

This poster showcases literary and artistic initiatives developed by the Green Libraries of the Spanish Network of Environmental Information and Documentation Centres (RECIDA), alongside other notable projects in Spain. The network is coordinated by the National Centre of Environmental Education, Agency for National Parks, Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. These initiatives are featured in a chapter of the open-access book Libraries Driving Education for Sustainable Development (2025, De Gruyter, IFLA Series). By combining artistic and literary approaches, these activities highlight libraries’ essential role in advancing sustainability and climate action. They create emotional connections that make sustainability messages more impactful and memorable, fostering climate action. The initiatives contribute especially to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 4 , 5, 13, 16, and 17. The examples demonstrate how libraries can be powerful agents of change by using culture and creativity to inspire environmental consciousness. Through storytelling, visual arts, and interactive experiences, Green Libraries provide fresh perspectives on environmental education, showing that awareness can be engaging and transformative.
