A prominent theme is the emergence of artificial intelligence as both an opportunity and a challenge, with articles examining AI governance, AI literacy, regulatory frameworks, and the ethical application of AI in libraries, higher education, and Indigenous heritage preservation. Other contributions address enduring concerns of equity, inclusion, access, and social justice, highlighting efforts to support disadvantaged communities, protect cultural heritage, strengthen confidentiality and ethics in library services and collections. The issue also investigates scholarly communication through studies of open access, predatory publishing, and institutional repositories. Complementing these discussions are analyses of library legislation, school and public library development, reading promotion, and research practices in library and information science. Together, these articles demonstrate libraries’ evolving role as inclusive and innovative institutions adapting to a rapidly changing information environment. (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-06-01) International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA); Bansal, SoniaThe phenomenon of ‘fake news’ has risen to prominence in many countries, regularly appearing in political debate. IFLA is concerned by the risk that this can pose to access to information, where people do not have the skills to spot it, but also by the way it is used by governments to justify potentially repressive policies. This statement sets out IFLA's position on fake news, and makes recommendations to governments and libraries. Item type: Ítem , IFLA profesinis pareiškimas dėl visuotinės bibliografinės apskaitos (2025)(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-06-01) IFLA Bibliography SectionŠis profesinis pareiškimas, patvirtintas IFLA Valdančiosios tarybos 2025 m. liepos mėn., apibrėžia pagrindinius visuotinės bibliografinės apskaitos (UBC) principus ir bendras atsakomybes. Item type: Ítem , Library Associations and the Sustainable Development Goals(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-05-26) International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)A survey of IFLA’s library association members demonstrates both that there is relatively widespread engagement with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, but that there is scope for more. In particular, associations have drawn on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to inform and build strategies, as well as to mobilise their fields around broader societal issues. Overall, it comes across that associations have tended to be more focused on working within the profession than beyond it but nonetheless have seen the SDGs as helping to build wider awareness of the rich contributions that libraries make to their communities. As we look to the post-2030 Agenda, there is a need to overcome the sense of distance between global agendas and the operational work of libraries, through guidance, adapted indicators and other tools. In parallel, a drive to promote localisation in the delivery of any future agenda, as well as to recognise priorities such as culture and intellectual freedom, will create a more favourable context for realising the full potential of libraries to drive development.Item type: Ítem , Being Bold: Workshop Note(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-05-26) International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)This note shares highlights from the presentations given at the workshop - Being Bold: Clear Direction in a Complex World - held in Toronto, Canada, on 15 April 2026 with IFLA's Governing Board, as well as members and volunteers from across North America.Item type: Ítem , Assessing the implementation of cultural rights(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-05-22) International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions; McGuire, ClaireIn October 2026, the UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights will propose guidance to the UN General Assembly on how to assess efforts to uphold cultural rights. This should help States, institutions, and decision-makers to set benchmarks for accountability and measure progress in the implementation of cultural rights for all. The Special Rapporteur recognises and supports the work of the Culture2030Goal Campaign to propose a Culture Goal with targets and indicator, but notes remaining challenges due to the transversal nature of cultural rights. The Special Rapporteur is building on the existing body of work to propose elements that should help States, institutions, decision-makers and other stakeholders set benchmarks for accountability and measure progress in the implementation of cultural rights for all. This publication is a response by IFLA to the call for submission circulated in April 2026 to support this work, and provides input from the global library field, as well as builds on the work of the Culture2030Goal Campaign's Culture Goal.Item type: Ítem , Defining Intelligence(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-05-20) Dyens, OllivierThis essay accompanies the intervention made by Ollivier Dyens at IFLA’s event at Toronto Public Library on 15 April 2026.Item type: Ítem , IFLA Ziņojums par attīstības tendencēm 2024: Ar pārliecību raugoties informācijas nākotnē(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-04-26) Dezuanni, Michael; Osman, Kim; Heck, Elizabeth; International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA); Kazāka, Inese; Iltnere, AnnaSekojot 2013. gada pirmā izdevuma ietvaram, kā arī turpmākajiem atjauninājumiem, Tendenču ziņojums 2024 ir veidots kā būtisks rīks bibliotēku nozarei nākotnes plānošanai. Similar to the hard work dedicated to writing the Manifesto, the section began in 2012 to work rigorously on the development of the toolkit. The IFLA/UNESCO Multicultural Library Manifesto Toolkit was launched at the 2014 80th IFLA General Conference and Assembly in Lyon, France to a large audience of conference attendees anxious to have a toolkit to assist libraries in planning, applying, and sustaining the principles and actions described in the Manifesto. In December 2018, Le Yang and Nicholas Demetriades from the IFLA Libraries Serving Multicultural Populations Section reviewed and updated the toolkit. Item type: Ítem , Connecting Libraries to Empower Communities - Insights from the Libraries Boosting Connectivity initiative(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-03-23) De Brasdefer, MariaConnecting every library to the internet is a powerful way to ensure all members of society, throughout life, have access to information and opportunity. The Libraries Boosting Connectivity (LBC) project is an IFLA initiative piloted between 2023 and 2025. It aimed to collect crucial data on how libraries are navigating and adapting to the digital landscape through a comprehensive survey. Digital access is essential for libraries. Knowing where they stand in terms of connectivity, gives them power to strengthen their ability to serve communities. Many libraries and associations around the world have carried out their own assessments to better understand where they are in terms of connectivity, however, many of these efforts remain fragmented. While individual efforts are valuable, an ambition of this project is to achieve an open access digital space that can provide the global library network with a platform to compare and explore digital-related data between different countries and serve as a tool for partnership and collaboration with external stakeholders that might be interested in supporting or funding library-led digital initiatives.Item type: Ítem , LRMoo: object-oriented definition and mapping from the IFLA Library Reference Model(International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-03) Aalberg, Trond; Riva, Pat; Žumer, MajaLRMoo is a conceptual model that expresses the IFLA Library Reference Model (IFLA LRM) in an object-oriented modeling framework. Developed through joint work in the library and museum communities, it is compatible with and an extension of the museum community model, the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CRM). LRMoo version 1.1.1 is aligned with CIDOC CRM version 7.1.3. LRMoo is a high-level, compact model, with a minimum of hierarchy between classes. LRMoo is tightly aligned with IFLA LRM and reflects its decisions about scope and granularity. LRMoo supersedes FRBRoo version 2.4 (2016), the object-oriented model that was aligned with the superseded FR models: FRBR, FRAD, and FRSAD. Transition information from FRBRoo to LRMoo is included. This current version is a minor update of LRM version 1.0.Item type: Ítem , (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), 2026-01) Hauke, Petra; Mocatta, Antonia; Pun, Priscilla Nga Ian; The IFLA Centre for Arabic Speaking Libraries (IFLA-CASL)تقدم هذه الإرشادات إطاراً شاملاً لتطوير المكتبات الخضراء والمستدامة وإدارتها وتقييمها في سياقات متنوعة. Members of the IFLA Audiovisual and Multimedia Section undertook a comprehensive revision of the Guidelines, last published in 2004 and circulated as a draft in 2017. This revision responds to profound transformations in the audiovisual landscape, driven by rapid technological change. The updated Guidelines address emerging challenges and opportunities related to metadata management and automated description, accessibility for users with disabilities, media literacy, and the growing role of libraries in combating disinformation. They also examine the implications of artificial intelligence for the discovery, description, and delivery of audiovisual content. Substantial structural changes include new chapters on literacy, accessibility, and AI perspectives, as well as revised sections on professional development, access, collection development, cataloguing and metadata, rights and licensing, and preservation.
