Abstract

This special issue of IFLA Journal, produced in collaboration with the IFLA Academic and Research Libraries Section, explores key trends shaping academic and research libraries worldwide. As institutions respond to evolving technological, economic, and geopolitical landscapes, libraries are redefining their roles in supporting research integrity, open science, and sustainable development. Featuring a diverse selection of peer-reviewed articles and case studies, this issue examines topics such as the evolving role of research librarians, the use of generative AI in library services, big data’s impact, and global research collaborations. By highlighting these developments, this issue provides critical insights into the future of academic and research libraries.
